Employers

The BC College of Social Workers recognizes the important role that employers of social workers have in maintaining social work responsibilities and standards. Employers of social workers are critical partners in assisting the College to fulfill its obligations to the public. There are advantages to employers in identifying qualified staff as social workers and requiring registration.

  • Employers can be absolutely confident that RSWs and RCSWs have met requisite educational and professional standards.
  • The College verifies credentials and undertakes criminal record checks which an employer can rely upon.
  • College registrants follow a Code of Ethics, well-established Standards of Practice and the College's Bylaws.
  • The College has a complaints review process which investigates possible breaches of ethics or standards of practice. Serious discipline outcomes will be public information no matter where the social worker was previously employed.
  • Employers should monitor RSWs' and RCSWs' registration status to make sure it is current.
