Members
It is essential that members keep their registration current. Only individuals who are registered with the British Columbia College of Social Workers or are employed as social workers by one of the exempt employers under Section 18(2) of the Social Workers Act may represent themselves as social workers in British Columbia. Otherwise it is an offence to represent themselves as social workers.
Social Workers registered in the Full class, may use the designation “Registered Social Worker" and the initials "RSW" or if registered in the Clinical class, may use the designation “Registered Clinical Social Worker” and the initials “RCSW”.
RSWs or RCSWs taking a leave of six months or more from social work (maternity leave, travel, etc), may choose to transfer to the Non-practicing class of registration which carries a much lower annual fee.
Getting Involved with the College
Board: Registrants vote for the eight social-work members of the Board. Any registrant meeting the qualifications may run for the Board.
Committees: The College welcomes registratns to become involved in its several committees and task forces.
Promotion: To advance the social work profession, registrants can urge non registered social workers to register and become involved with the College. They may also educate social work employers about the benefits of College registration and of hiring registrants.
Quality Assurance: The College is constantly improving its Standards of Practice and Bylaws to better meet the requirements of an ever-changing profession. We urge registrants to make their views on social practice issues known to the College.
