Registered Social Worker (2 positions)

The BC College of Social Workers is currently recruiting two social workers with deep practice experience, knowledge and a special interest in learning about professional regulation. Working within the duty and objects of the College, each social worker will support the enhancement of the role and reputation of the College amongst the public, registrants and other stakeholders. We are looking for the right candidates to join our team. 

As part of a small, encouraging team, the successful candidates will work with a number of different committees, reference groups and/or panels while acting as a resource to the public, applicants, registrants, and others. Both positions will have shared responsibility for projects and specialty areas. The successful candidates will support the mission of the College through transparent, objective and fair processes.

To be successful in these roles, the candidates will have a functional understanding of the role of the College and its relationship to the public, government, Ministry of Children and Family Development, professional association, agencies and other stakeholders. A broad range of experience within assorted aspects of social work is highly advantageous. The successful candidates will be creative, innovative and thoughtful, with strong analytical abilities. The College relies on staff to assess information and make valid, reliable evidence-informed decisions and to present information in both oral and written forms to diverse audiences.

Director of Professional Practice – Full Time

In this role, the successful candidate will be in a position to oversee registration functions. An important part of this role will be building and supporting the Clinical specialty through facilitating and assisting applicants while maintaining the high standards expected of a specialty designation. An understanding of social work education at the local and international levels for the purpose of credentialing and assessing applicant competence will be a solid foundation for working with the Registration Committee.  A strong focus on policy is required. This role will share responsibilities with other professional staff related to quality assurance initiatives and various projects.

Professional Practice Associate – 0.8 FTE

In this role, the successful candidate will assist with research and policy development. An important part of this role will be building relationships with stakeholders through various engagements strategies including presentations and the facilitation of focus/discussion groups. Strong public speaking skills are required for this role along with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders. This role will also involve providing practice consultation with registrants, therefore the successful candidate will have a broad range of social work experience in a variety of settings and extensive knowledge of social policy and legislation.

Minimum requirements for both positions:

  • Master of Social Work degree
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the BC College of Social Workers
  • Extensive experience in various social work practice settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and an ability to write research, position and policy papers
  • Strong ability in working with Microsoft Office and other information technologies
  • Advanced ability to communicate with diverse audiences in English, both oral and written forms
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a team
