I am pleased to announce that the British Columbia College of Social Workers has appointed Ms Chelsea Cooledge, RSW, as Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, commencing January 1, 2017. Chelsea has been Acting Registrar since June and has done an excellent job in that role. A hiring committee of the board recommended Chelsea for the position of Registrar and the board confirmed her appointment at its December meeting.
Chelsea joined the College as Director of Professional Practice in 2012 after a number of years as a healthcare social worker. During her time with the College, Chelsea has worked with a number of its committees, has taken a lead role in the revision of the Standards of Practice and the implementation of the Continuing Professional Development program, in addition to providing numerous practice consultations to registrants. Chelsea has also consulted with the BC Government on issues related to social work practice, including changes to the regulation of the Adult Guardianship Act.
Chelsea earned a BA from UBC, a BSW from the University of Victoria, and an MSW in Leadership from the University of Calgary. A lifelong learner, Chelsea is completing a Master of Law degree with a specialization in Health Law from Osgoode Hall at York University. Born and raised in North Vancouver, Chelsea represents the third generation of social workers in her family.
It gives me great pleasure to make this announcement as one of my final acts as Chair. The College is in very good hands with a full complement of board members and a very capable Registrar in place. I know that you will join me in congratulating Chelsea and wishing her well as she takes on this dynamic and challenging portfolio.
Best wishes for the holidays,
Curtis Magnuson, RSW
